Five Happy Things / Home Sweet Home
I very much appreciate and enjoy the focus that looking for life's small and not-so-small happy things brings to my daily life - so here we go:
1) Alaska Family Cruise booked! We locked in our reservations for a summer 2026 cruise to Alaska, so something really nice for us all to look forward to. We're in a balcony room, and my daughter and her family are directly across the hall in a quad inside room, her preference. She's not quite ready to have a balcony room with two still-young, active daughters, and will have the run of our room anyhow, at any time she/they wish. In the AM, we'll generally prop the door open as soon as we awake, so the family can cross over and join us on our balcony for coffee, breakfast, or sightseeing, leaving whatever adult did not get up first to enjoy a little extra sleep.
2) My Active Girlfriends I continue to be so appreciative that I have girlfriends interested in arranging our get togethers around active pursuits. On Monday I kayaked with one girlfriend, today I'm hiking with another. It makes me so very happy to spend time together doing something we all love.
3) My Tranquil, Uncluttered Home. Never do I appreciate it more than when I'm away from it, such as we were last week. I am a decluttering maniac - I really can't tolerate anything being out of place, which is such a change from my somewhat sloppy younger self. Perhaps as a result of growing older and having experienced more of life's insanity, I need my home to be a bastion of calmness and tranquility.
4) Summer Fruit. Currently in my kitchen we have fresh mangos, watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, and nectarines. I feel rich in summer fruit!
5) I Hit My Weight Goal! More on Friday, in what will be my final weight loss check in, but for now, I did it! I am so happy with how my clothes are now fitting, and I look forward to how much more fun clothes shopping should be going forward.
But it was hard. So very hard. Hard enough that I hope to never go through it again. Thus for now I will continue to weigh myself daily in order to promptly nip any changes on the scale in the bud.
And yes, this is what I think it will take to keep the lost weight off. Whether or not its worth the ongoing effort is certainly something we each have to determine on our own. I've tried not to sugar coat my efforts, because they were definitely considerable. So no judgement whatsoever from me if others find it all simply too regimented to deal with. Because it is regimented, or at least it has been for me.
