TBB Asks: New Year, New You?

Today I'm joining in with some other bloggers via The Blended Blog to answer 12 questions about my hopes and plans for the New Year. I so enjoyed being able to join in on this month's Q&A, in that it's gotten me all fired up with determination to make this year, my 55th here on this planet, the best one yet!

The Blended Blog Asks:

1. Resolutions or No Resolutions? Resolutions! I do try to do them in the form of a life plan for the year, and I definitely give myself slack. I'm aiming for progress, not perfection!

2. Love snow or No Snow? No snow. Because we can do this instead on New Years Day, yeah!

3. Name a New Place you want to go this year? Japan! We just booked a trip to visit there this coming Fall, and I'm so looking forward to it!

4. Would you rather have a new Hair cut or Hair color? New haircut. I already have lovely highlights and lowlights  woven throughout my hair thanks to my wonderful stylist, but I mess with my haircut all the time. In fact, I just had my bob shortened by my stylist a few days ago, and I'm much enjoying it.

5. Name one special thing you want to do for yourself this year? Join a tennis club. I love tennis with a passion, and clubs abound here, as do tennis courts (we have ten, for example, just in our home association), plus who doesn't love wearing a tennis skirt? ;-)

6. Least Favorite thing about January? Gosh, I'd have to say nothing! We have been enjoying gorgeous weather here along the coast, our first January here in our new coastal location. We've been able to be outside pretty much daily doing something active with no concerns about the heat!

Tidepooling on a warm January day.

7. Most Favorite thing about January? Making new resolutions. I love the idea of reinventing myself and my life each year, even if I don't always succeed. Plus, it's the beginning of whale season here, our first time experiencing this amazing event as 'locals.'

8. When do you take down your Holiday decorations? Inside the house they come down just a couple of days after Christmas; on the 27th this year. Outside the house they come down on New Year's day. I want my New Year to start fresh, without any remnants from the prior year.

9. Do you diet in January? Yep. Each and every year I resolve to lose ten pounds, though I don't diet so much as try to eliminate the things I know are not in my best interest to consume.

10. What area of your home do you want to organize the most? Our garage! The inside of my home is pretty organized due to moving, then reflooring (having new flooring put down necessitates emptying out closets, and motivates me to purge in the process), but I feel like our garage is never quite as organized as I'd like, no matter how many times we go through it . . . stuff just seems to continual migrate out there!

11. Favorite Winter Comfort Food? Crockpot cooking. The shorter days of winter make being in my kitchen in the evening a bit less pleasant, (as opposed to summer, when we have the doors thrown open, the fountain running, the patio table set, and the outside grill lit and ready to go) so I appreciate being able to prep my dinner while it's still light outside, and simply sit down and eat come dinnertime.

12. Favorite Guilty Pleasure? Reading while cozied up under a blanket, a mug of something warm in my hands.

All done, and now I'm off to get started on some of the items I've listed. Thank you ladies for letting me play along!

    1. Oh, Katie, I am, trust me! We’ve been reading the weather reports about the frigid temps elsewhere in the country, and hoping for an end sooner rather than later!

  2. I love these thought provoking posts.
    1. Not so much resolutions as intentions. I am still working on my word for 2018 - space? progress? Last year the word was listen and it served me well. The new year is an opportunity for starting fresh or continuing with what's worked well.
    2. Snow means slow. Spring, summer & fall are very busy, active seasons and winter allows for a slower pace, more reading & reflection time. Snow in NE Alberta is inevitable. It's a season for practicing the Danish word hygge - a mood of coziness, comfort, contentment.
    3. It may not happen this year but I want to go to Ottawa, Ontario to see the nation's capital which may morph into a St. Lawrence river cruise.
    4. A good hair cut is essential. My hairdresser of 35+ yrs retired in June; my new stylist & I are still on a learning curve.
    5. A road trip with a friend.
    6. Poor winter driving conditions puts a damper on January.
    7. My favorite thing about January? - increasing daylight hours.
    8. Holiday decorations come down on Jan 1 or 2. Seasonal decorations stay up until Easter.
    9. Diet is a word I've eliminated from my vocabulary. I would rather focus on healthy eating balanced with activity. I believe what we eat between New Year's Day & Christmas is more important than what we eat between Christmas & New Year's Day.
    10. Purging closets has been on my to-do list since retirement 4 yrs ago.
    11. A favorite winter comfort food is chicken pot pie.
    12. Guilt is another word to eliminate from my vocabulary. I indulge in slow mornings beginning with coffee in bed with a good read.

    1. You’ve reminded me that I have a lovely chicken pot pie recipe I need to make this winter. And I’d clean your closets for you if I could- organizing is one of my favorite things to do, truly!

  5. Yay, so glad to see you here! Have to say that while I love snow, what you've got going on in your neighborhood is pretty special.

I get kind of excited about making resolutions and anticipating opportunities to reinvent or 'grow' myself! I try not to get too wound around the hub when I don't lose all of ten pounds I'd hoped to lose. But just do the best I can.

You probably know that I love my crockpot. Makes life so much more manageable for us busy retirees!! Hope you will share some of your new recipes.

    1. Hi Leslie, I have making three new crock pot meals as one of my Winter Bucket List items, so I will definitely be sharing recipes!

And I use to love, love driving up into our mountains for a weekend of snow play, but a few years ago we had to drive back home during a bad snow storm and that pretty much scared the snow right out of this sunny S. California girl!

And I’ll be cheering your weight loss attempts from the sidelines if you’ll do same for me. In that these are just vanity pounds for the both of us I suspect, we have a limited audience! ☺️
